Grafting Class August 7thLearn how to graft your own trees!  On Saturday, August 7th, 2010 at 8:30am and 1:00pm, Johnson's Nursery plant propagators Mike Yanny & Lynn Marie Mayer (both with over 20 years of grafting experience) will show you how this magical process is accomplished.

You will receive one-on-one instruction  on how to properly execute grafting cuts necessary for a successful take, your own professional grade grafting knife, and five successfully grafted plants. You will be able to choose from a range of plants to graft.

If you are interested in custom grafting a specific tree of your own, you may contact us ahead of time to make sure the proper wood is available for the procedure.

Some of the understock available for the class includes:

   - Ginkgo biloba - Maidenhair Tree
   - Malus 'Sprout Free' - Apple or Crabapple
   - Syringa reticulata - Japanese Tree Lilac
   - Carpinus caroliniana - Musclewood
   - Tilia americana - American Linden
   - Aesculus glabra - Ohio Buckeye
   - Multi-stem Malus (Apple) to make 3 in 1 trees - Three kinds of apples on one tree

Some of the cultivars available to graft onto this stock for the class includes:

   - Ginkgo - 'Fastigiata', 'Jade Butterflies', 'Magyar', 'Saratoga'
   - Malus - 'Lynn Marie' (extremely dwarf), 'Cartland' (eating apple), 'Haralson' (eating apple), 'Honeycrisp' (eating apple), 'McIntosh' (eating apple), 'Moon Glow' (bright yellow ornamental fruit), 'Ranchero Ruby' (bright pink flowers, compact), baccata 'Jacki' (white flower, red fruit, glossy clean foliage), sargentii 'Firebird' (persistant red fruit, small spreader), 'Anne E.' (persistant red fruit, weeper)
   - Syringa reticulata - 'Ivory Silk' (upright), 'Summer Snow' (broad head)
   - Carpinus caroliniana - Ball O' Fire (globe), Picturesque (horizontal form)
   - Tilia americana - Girard's Dwarf (very dwarf in all respects), platyphyllos 'Laciniata' (lance leaf, fern-like foliage), 'Redmond'
   - Aesculus glabra - x 'Homestead' (orange-red fall color), Ft. McNair' (pink flowers)

$250.00 fee for this class gets you:

- A Three Hour Grafting Session

- 5 Successfully Grafted Plants

- Professional Grade Grafting Knife
