Star Power™ Juniper - Juniperus x 'J.N. Select Blue'

Zone: 3 H: 17' S: 7-9'
Selected from open-pollinated seedlings. It is suspected to be a hybrid between Juniper chinensis x Juniper communis. Star Power™ gets its name from the blue-green, star-like, juvenile foliage which gives it a delicate, almost sparkling texture. It is the fastest growing upright juniper we have evaluated, surpassing even Juniperus chinensis 'Mountbatten' in our fields. A great plant to use for screening and deer resistant.

Technito® Arborvitae - Thuja occidentalis 'Bail John' PP 15,850

Zone: 3 H: 15-20' S: 7-9'
A 2004 Johnson's Nursery, Inc. - Bailey Nurseries co-introduction. This plant was selected at Johnson's Nursery as a compact form of 'Techny' that was growing in a block of Techny liners purchased from Bailey Nurseries. It most likely resulted from a cutting of a sport. Technito® has a dense, full growth habit that eliminates any need for shearing throughout the life of the plant. It attains a height of about  6' and a width of 4' in 10 years. Standard Techny would be about 10 1/2' tall and 5 1/2' wide at the same age. Similar to Techny, Technito® has good resistance to winter burn and dark green foliage. Because of its compact habit, Technito® can be used in more restricted spaces than some of the other arborvitae cultivars.

Plant Introductions

Our nursery has been actively selecting new plant cultivars for the past 30 years. We are most interested in tough, durable plants that will perform well in heavy alkaline soils and survive our rugged climate. With the millions of plants that have passed through our nursery over the years we have found numerous improved plants. We hope you will try some of our new cultivars and see for yourself.

For information on plant trilling, testing agreements, trademark licensing agreements or patent licensing to propagate and sell these introductions, please call or email me if you have questions.
