We are a large Wisconsin tree nursery that produces trees, shrubs, evergreens, and perennial plants, serving the entire metro-Milwaukee area and all of southeast Wisconsin. We grow most of our stock locally on about 500 acres in Menomonee Falls and Jackson and offer it for sale from our holding yard in Menomonee Falls. We are a full service provider of landscape plants, products and services, with a large staff of architects, designers, horticulturists, and installation crews. Our clients are independent landscape contractors, garden centers and municipalities who purchase through our wholesale division, and commercial clients and residential homeowners who purchase through our landscape and retail departments.

Purchasing locally grown nursery stock benefits our clients in two ways. First, they can be sure their plants are acclimated to Wisconsin’s seasonal temperature fluctuations and growing conditions. Second, our selection is big enough to accommodate those who need large quantities of identical plants, or hard to find plants that garden centers may not stock. We grow many uncommon plant species in an effort to provide unique landscape options for all of our clients.
What is special about Johnson’s plants?
In addition to offering the cultivated plant varieties that have become very popular over the years, we specialize in native plants species, too. Native plants can be incorporated into any landscape design, as long as they are properly sited and planted. We have designed and installed native woodland gardens, prairie restorations, and other natural landscaping that utilizes beautiful Wisconsin native plants. The benefits of using natives are that they are low maintenance after they are well established, they are extremely hardy here in their natural habitat, and they bring a bit of Wisconsin natural history to the urban landscape.
Our plant propagation department is one of the most successful research and development groups in the landscape industry. In the 48 years that Johnson’s Nursery has been doing business we have been involved in developing and/or introducing over 25 new plants into commerce. Three have been patented. Fifteen have trademark names.
